The hill's blue blanket
The hill wears blue when daylight goes; The meadow shuts its daisy rows. The path curls up beside the stream And settles into one long dream.

A mouse baked moon-shaped buns at night And dusted them with sugar white. She left them cooling in a row While sleepy stars began to glow.

Waiting at the station
I wait beside the busy track To meet the train that brings you back. Then all the station slips from view; The place lights up because of you.
Love · Tender
The window herb
A pot of thyme beside the pane Enjoys the sun and dreams of rain. I brush a leaf and breathe it in; A garden small enough for a tin.

Your own bright year
This year need not resemble last; Some wishes reach beyond the past. May new delights come into view And leave a little room for you.

The familiar laugh
I know your laugh across a crowd; It finds me even when it's loud. A silly tale, a sideways grin, And all our old adventures begin.

For showing up
You didn't bring a grand surprise; You brought your time and kindly eyes. That simple gift of being near Was more than enough to help me here.

The sock committee
My socks convened beneath the bed To choose which foot they'd warm instead. Their meeting took so long, you see, I wore the pair that stayed with me.
